COVID-19 Update

As we have expressed many times, our goal at Special Tree remains first and foremost to do all we can to slow or prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus and to keep our clients, staff, and communities healthy and safe.
Currently there are no clients with active cases of COVID-19 in our system. After many weeks of keeping the virus out of our facilities completely, we did have one team member test positive at the NeuroCare Center this week, with three additional staff tests pending.

For this reason we are taking measures at the NeuroCare Center to return to some of our previous facility efforts to prevent the spread of the virus:

  • At the NeuroCare Center, most routine client activities are once again restricted and will take place in individual client rooms to reduce exposure risk (meals in rooms, activities in rooms, structured outdoor opportunities, etc.).
  • Wayne County Outpatient Therapy, which had recently restarted at the NeuroCare Campus, is temporarily suspended until further notice, at least through Sunday, July 12, 2020.
  • Non-essential outside appointments and client outings for NCC clients are suspended until further notice
  • Physician visits to NCC are suspended until further notice.
  • Visitor restrictions continue. These comply with the Executive Orders currently in place through the State of Michigan.
  • Staff who are not providing direct patient care continue to work off-site to reduce exposure to clients and direct care staff.
  • We are aggressively managing our supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following best practices for disinfecting and cleaning the facility.
  • Quarantine protocols for new admissions and readmissions at NCC increased from 10 days to 14 days. Admissions are reviewed on a case by case basis.
  • Our staff continue to follow protocols including the use of PPE, self temping prior to coming to work, screening and symptom checks at the door, social distancing, and more.

Announcing On-Site Testing at the NeuroCare Campus
Special Tree has secured the capability for on-site testing at the NeuroCare Campus. Clients and staff can now be tested on-site for COVID-19. Testing began yesterday, July 1st, and will continue Thursday, July 2nd and Monday, July 6, 2020. Testing will be expanded to include staff and clients at off-campus facilities.
As a reminder we are updating our data graphs frequently which track active and total COVID-19 cases on our website where you can follow along for current information.
We’ll continue to keep you up-to-date as we have news, and encourage you to reach out to your Case Manager or Residential Program Manager with your questions and concerns.
