This week, we had to temporarily suspend visitation at the NeuroCare Center - North and our Heavlin Residence after a staff member who worked on those units tested positive for COVID-19 during our mandatory weekly testing cycle for clients and staff. Per MDHHS guidelines, NCC North and Heavlin clients were retested and all results came back negative today! Visitation will resume at NCC North and Heavlin on Monday, April 5th. Visitation for NCC South clients was not affected as the staff member did not work on the unit. Although testing of visitors is not mandated by the state, Special Tree will continue to do testing as part of our screening protocol at this time.
Mandatory testing for all NCC clients and staff (North/South/Heavlin) will continue once a week. Current testing guidelines are based on the county positivity rate which remains between 5% - 10%. If the positivity rate is >10% bi-weekly testing will resume. Our COVID-19 Watch Team is keeping a close eye on county positivity rates as Michigan is currently experiencing a rise in cases. Please continue to keep your guard up against the virus through wearing a mask, social distancing, and frequent hand-washing.
On a more positive note, our first drive-thru vaccine clinics on Tuesday were a huge success! We were able to vaccinate almost 100 people at the NeuroCare Campus and nearly 30 at our partner Resilire’s Neuro Skills Center in Troy during the two hours clinics. A big shout out to our fabulous crew who kept the clinics “rolling” smoothly.
As our COVID-19 vaccination rates continue to rise and we have greater protection against the virus, our COVID-19 Watch Team will continue to cautiously ease restrictions per MDHHS guidelines. Starting April 5th, clients in our inpatient and outpatient programs will be integrated in the NeuroCare Campus Therapy gym. Our inpatient clients are now participating in socially distanced activities and communal dining has resumed. We’re also excited to be reintroducing salon services and welcoming back local entertainers to NCC in the coming weeks. We will continue to strictly follow our infectious disease practices at the NeuroCare Campus to prevent the spread of COVID-19 including screening and temperature checks, PPE, social distancing, and other safety protocols.
As mentioned, visitation will resume at NCC North and Heavlin on Monday, April 5th. Our new visitation guidelines are aligned with those from the MDHHS, CMS, and CDC which can be found on our website. Although visitor testing is not mandated, Special Tree will continue to do testing as part of our screening protocol at this time. If you have received the COVID-19 vaccination series, please bring your card to show staff when you check-in for a visit as this will determine how close you can get to your loved one. Social distancing is only required for visitors who are NOT fully vaccinated. We appreciate everyone following our visitation guidelines to help make these visits as safe and enjoyable as possible. To schedule a visit, please contact Cindy Manetta at 734-893-1001.
