COVID-19 Update | August 18, 2021

Visitation Resumes Tomorrow!
We are pleased to share that visitation will resume on Thursday, August 19th at the NeuroCare Campus following negative results from our facility-wide outbreak testing this week! Clients will resume all activities prior to the 14-day quarantine including indoor/outdoor community outings and Leaves of Absence (LOA). We continue to track our client and staff pending and confirmed cases on the COVID-19 page of our website.  The following visitation protocols are now in place at the NeuroCare Campus:

  • Visitation at the NeuroCare Campus is from 10am – 8pm daily.
  • Masks are mandatory for all clients, staff, and visitors at the NeuroCare Campus regardless of vaccination status.
  • All visitors are free to visit throughout the building but must wear a mask in common areas. Masks are still required in a client’s room when visitors/clients are non-vaccinated.
  • COVID-19 screenings are still required for ALL visitors regardless of vaccination status.
  • Children 12 and older may visit indoors at the NeuroCare Campus. Visitors under 12 may visit outside.

Delta Variant Increasing in Michigan
The highly contagious Delta variant continues to spread rapidly and the number of cases in Michigan is rising. The COVID-19 Watch Team is keeping a close eye on positivity rates which is 6.5% in Wayne County (as of 8/18/21). We continue to strictly follow all guidelines from the MDHHS and CDC to keep our clients, staff, and communities safe including the precautions below:

  • Weekly routine COVID testing will continue for non-vaccinated staff.
  • All staff, visitors, and vendors are required to wear a mask while in the facility, regardless of vaccination status. The only exception is for vaccinated visitors while in a private room visiting a vaccinated client.
  • All staff, visitors, and vendors are still required to complete a health screening with temperature checks daily.
  • All new admissions to Special Tree are required to be quarantined/isolated for 14 days unless they are fully-vaccinated. When a client is symptomatic, regardless of vaccination status, our current protocol is to automatically isolate to rule out COVID-19.
  • Any staff and/or client who is symptomatic or has a known exposure to COVID-19 will be tested.
  • When a new case of COVID-19 is confirmed for a client or staff (through PCR testing) it is considered an “outbreak” which activates the following precautions as required by the MDHHS:
    • Contact tracing is initiated to identify, monitor, and support individuals who may have been exposed to the virus.
    • A 14-day quarantine is required for staff who test positive.
    • Facility-wide outbreak testing must be initiated for all staff and clients regardless of vaccination status.
    • Visitation is suspended until we have no new positive cases during the 14-day outbreak testing period.

We urge everyone to remain vigilant in safety precautions to reduce the spread of the Delta variant which includes following new mask guidance from the CDC, social distancing, frequent hand washing, and getting vaccinated.  We’ll continue to keep you up-to-date as we have more news and encourage you to reach out to your Case Manager with your questions and concerns.
