Congratulations to Special Tree’s Rene Dell, Director of Vocational and Day Treatment Services, and Char Combs, Executive Director of our Home Health partner CC Rehab, for their awards from the Brain Injury Association of Michigan (BIAMI).
Rene Dell recently received the 2020 Brain Injury Association of Michigan Volunteer Award in honor of all the time, energy, effort, and talent she has contributed as Co-Chair of the BIAMI’s Legacy Auction committee. The committee brings in donations for the BIAMI’s annual two-week online auction held in conjunction with their Spring Tribute Legacy Dinner to fund programs for military veterans suffering from traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress injury. (Prior to the pandemic, the committee had been working hard to secure donations before the auction and dinner were postponed.) Rene began volunteering with the BIAMI in 2006 and joined the Auction committee in 2012 at the invitation of Special Tree’s Jack Richert. In 2013, Rene became the committee Co-Chair and is proud to be known for bringing in the most auction items. “I credit my background as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for my ability to cold call for donations without fear of rejection!” she said. “I love being able to volunteer with BIAMI. They are an organization that works so hard to provide education, advocacy and support to those in need.” Great job Rene!
Char Combs is the recipient of the Community Service and Leadership Award and will be formally inducted into the Brain Injury Association of Michigan’s Legacy Society later this year. Legacy Society members are recognized for their dedication, leadership, and personal commitment to enhancing the quality of life for persons with brain injury and their families. Char will be honored along with our longtime colleague and Special Tree alumnus Dr. Randy Bruce, recipient of the Professional Service Award. The awards are typically presented in April at the BIAMI’s annual Spring Tribute Legacy Dinner which is postponed due to COVID-19. Char has over 25 years of experience working with the brain injury community as an Occupational Therapist and as a leader in providing community-based rehabilitation programs for individuals with TBI. As the Executive Director of CC Rehab, she now leads Special Tree’s home care and community rehabilitation services division. Way to go Char!
