Special Tree welcomes Basem Almasri, M.D. as Medical Director

We are excited to announce that Basem Almasri, M.D., has joined Special Tree as our new Medical Director. Dr. Almasri graduated from Damascus University Medical School and completed his Family Practice Residency at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit. He became board-certified in Family Practice in 2004.

Dr. Almasri strengthens our team with his extensive expertise, which greatly enhances our overall capabilities. He has already provided significant support in admissions and patient care. “He is incredibly kind and responsive,” remarked Physician Assistant Kelly Long. This sentiment is shared by others, who praise Dr. Almasri for his kindness and willingness to address questions, both during patient visits at Special Tree and during his time off campus.

“I have been impressed by his compassionate nature, thoughtful presence, and strong commitment to patient care,” shared CEO Joe Richert II. “He brings with him a wealth of knowledge in Medicare, post-acute rehabilitation, and medical education. He will be an invaluable asset to our organization and a fantastic partner to work with.”

When asked about his top priorities, Dr. Almasri emphasized the importance of first getting acquainted with the Special Tree team, as well as the organization’s systems and processes. “My top priority is to interact with the staff and get to know everyone,” he shared. “As I grow in my involvement, I’ll also be on the lookout for any opportunities I can bring to the patient care process.”

Dr. Almasri completed a UCSF Fellowship for Hospital Leaders in 2012 and has been certified as a Medical Director by The American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine, Inc. He has a strong background in both Hospital Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. His diverse skill set will be a valuable asset to us as we build upon our fifty-year legacy and expand our services to serve patients with neuro diagnoses beyond Special Tree’s historic scope.

When asked about his motivation to partner with us, Dr. Almasri expressed that it was the distinctive nature of Special Tree, along with the professionalism demonstrated by our leadership, that attracted him.

“It is a unique facility,” he stated. “What amazed me most is the wonderful leadership and the impact they have on the rest of the staff. Everyone is professional, and things are very organized. The patients are so calm and comfortable. It’s clear they really feel safe and respected – like they are at home.”

Welcome, Dr. Almasri!
